The Making of a Dining Room or The Dining Room Design Process

Dining rooms are a fun project to tackle.  A dining room can be dramatic and surprising.  Take a fabulous wall covering,  vintage chairs, rich fabric and a touch of metallic and the outcome can be sophisticated and glamorous.

I am currently in the process of doing a fun, sophisticated dining room.  We start with a room with fabulous bones.  Glorious views and beautiful hardwoods give us a good beginning.  Already in place are these two World's Away bases, which will carry a rectangular piece of glass and a simple, glamorous chandelier.

The table and chairs will rest on this 12' x 15' oushak rug.

The client has purchased eight vintage Henredon chairs which will be painted in a blue lacquer depending on velvet fabric we select.  The lines of these chairs will add drama when painted.

I am a fan of the patterned fabric in sapphire and think it will be a great balance of color with our citron alligator wall covering.  The pattern of the Groundworks Cobalt Velvet evokes the modern feel we are seeking.

The walls will be covered with this citron alligator wall covering from Designer Wallcoverings.

To complete this chic dining room we will be painting the ceiling in Ralph Lauren metallic paint in one of the following finishes.  My professional choice will be Antique Bullion which is on the far left in the photo below.
Putting these colors and finishes together will make for a fun and sophisticated dining experience.
I will post photos as the work is completed.  So excited for this young, hip couple.
